We went home to visit old friends and had a great time with Margaret.
Here is a photo of our neighbor Greg, Denise, Madge and I at the party. We also got our family portraits back.
You can find more photos in my Gallery. Please take a look and vote on your favorite for xmas.
Tim got us tickets tonight to the Vampire weekend concert. He first heard them on Morning Becomes Eclectic. They are pretty good. Give it a listen. Press the play button.
Our first time to Hawaii we chose to go visit my aunt in Kauai. We had a wonderful time in Poipu and are ready to go back, time permitting.
Our friends Scott and Charlotte joined us there. We got in a good hike in Waimea Canyon and Tim got surfing lessons. I was pretty bummed not to be able to surf with this silly broken ankle. Oh well, guess we will have to go back! Here is a photo of Tim, Scott, and Charlotte.
A friend of Tim's from college came out to see us last week and we went to Seattle for the weekend. At first, I wanted to do the girl thing and just spend time in the city, but Tim's heart was set on the San Juan Islands and we spent most of a day there. It was beautiful and peaceful. I would love to go back and just stay for a while. The peace would definitely be helpful in these times of uncertainty.

We took a trip to Redding to visit Tim's mom and grandparents. I captured this photo of a lighthouse on the way up the coast. It was a beautiful drive and a great trip.
We went to Sonoma for three nights of relaxation at the Sonoma Chalet. We read the description as a secluded comfortable cottage, but when we got there, we realized that it was slightly run down, and that the furniture and bed needed to be replaced 15 years ago. I usually don't have problems with beds, but each morning I woke up with a sore back and each time I sat on the couch, I realized it was lumpy and lacked springs. Definitely not worth $200 a night! It reminded me a crummy college furniture. On the up side, the breakfast was wonderful.
We gave ourselves a trip to the volcano and the Timberline lodge for Christmas. It was nice and peaceful. I am not so sure I am quite stable on the snowboard yet, but with the Mt. so close and practice, I think I might be able to get down the mountain with falling. I have a good coach. We also did some show-shoeing out on the mountainside. I really loved the way the sun was shining on the snow, making an icy reflective glaze. I wish I had more time. I could easily spend a week by the fire. I am in the search for a small cabin to do just that. It would have been nice to cook our own food and make hot cocoa at night.
The Timberline lodge has some great history and was built as a WPA under Roosevelt during the depression. Every stairwell and entrance has a unique feature. I wish I had made it to the Blue Ox pub, but it seemed closed. Maybe next time. There is a small movie that is 22 minutes long that is worth seeing while you are there, and the conference rooms have free internet connections. Photo of the Mountain taken from our room window. It was the first time out of the country since 89'. I was definitely
excited. The country is so full of history and there is so much to see.
First we went to Heidelberg where Tim went to school and stayed the
night in this quaint hotel that used to be the post office.

Here is the street we stayed on. We then went to visit family near
Kaiserslautern. The little town was cute. Later we went to Strassburg
near the boarder and wandered the street and had a real coffee. Here we walked all the steps up the beautiful Cathedral.
We went to Silverfalls
for a hike on the trail of the ten falls. It is so nice to be able to
hike out and see nature. Only one part of the trail was closed off, and
it definitely was a half a day trip, and very worth it.
Next time, I just need to bring a picnic. We had to leave early due to
hunger. A good game of chess out there would of really been great!
