Well, she did it. She turned 9 on me, and had a wonderful time doing
so. Madisons 9th birthday was a hit, although mom is very worn out. Try keeping track of that many girls on an ice arena. Glad that two of the moms helped out, along with Tim. I don't think I could have done it alone. Madison has made some wonderful friends, and this party showed.
She had a hard time pruning down her guest list, and I gave in. Luckily for me, I could exchange some adults for the kids tickets and was able to get them on the Ice. Cara had a blast. She wants to go skating everyday! She was like the everlasting energizer bunny that kept going and going. By 7:30, she had crashed out. If only I had her energy.
Tim has good photos!
We gave ourselves a trip to the volcano and the Timberline lodge for Christmas. It was nice and peaceful. I am not so sure I am quite stable on the snowboard yet, but with the Mt. so close and practice, I think I might be able to get down the mountain with falling. I have a good coach. We also did some show-shoeing out on the mountainside. I really loved the way the sun was shining on the snow, making an icy reflective glaze. I wish I had more time. I could easily spend a week by the fire. I am in the search for a small cabin to do just that. It would have been nice to cook our own food and make hot cocoa at night.
The Timberline lodge has some great history and was built as a WPA under Roosevelt during the depression. Every stairwell and entrance has a unique feature. I wish I had made it to the Blue Ox pub, but it seemed closed. Maybe next time. There is a small movie that is 22 minutes long that is worth seeing while you are there, and the conference rooms have free internet connections. Photo of the Mountain taken from our room window.
